Why Winter Camping?

Who's up for winter camping? Yeah, camping is that wondrous peaceful retreat to the wilderness and can be heavenly. You can relax without all the hustle and bustle that comes standard with the office and urban jungle. It's time to re-discover Mother Nature and the soothing cadence of the birds and crickets. Ah, can't you just smell that healthy fresh mountain air?

"Whoa, hold on a minute!", I heard someone exclaim. "Winter camping?" Yes, you heard (or read) that right! I'm sure that virtually everyone has heard of or gone camping during the summer or spring months, and perhaps even the fall, but what about winter camping? Have you ever given this unique adventure a shot (or perhaps a thought)? Maybe you should give it a try. Well, at least give it some consideration.

I have always loved winter camping. You see, I'm not much of a summer person. I consider 60s T-shirt weather and I sweat a lot when it's hot. My wife says it's due to high metabolism or something. I don't know, I'm not a science person either. I always thought it was just because I'm a guy. Girls are the ones who typically get cold, right? I think guys sweat around 40 percent more than the softer sex. Anyway, winter camping is really great if you think about it. It's perfect activity for those who like cold weather. But even if you do get cold easily, you can dress for the occasion and still have a fun time.

You see, with winter camping there's a tremendous amount of benefit. I'm talking about the bonus that sells the whole deal. The bugs are frozen and dead. No nasty ticks and mosquitoes chewing you up while you're lounging around the crackling camp fire. You don't have to share your hotdog, burger or fruits with the ants. Don't worry, with the right tent and sleeping bag, you will sleep like a baby. That sticky summer heat and humidity won't be around to keep you up all night, tossing and turning. What more could you ask for? Winter camping is the way to go!

If done right, winter camping can be very enjoyable and refreshing, and the experience second to none. But don't just take my word for it. You will actually have to go out there and experience it for yourself.

If you have never been winter camping, you should start looking for supplies for your first big adventure, and I happen to know just the place to browse. It's a neat little land called cyberspace. The internet has all you need for a fun and exciting adventure in the park, bush, or woods. Acquiring the right equipment for your perfect winter camping trip should be a cinch.

You can visit specialized stores such as REI.com which offer a massive selection of quality products for any and all outdoor adventures, or more general online stores like ShoppersChoice.com and examine the vast array of tents, sleeping bags, and camping grills. Oh, and they always have great bargains!

With the right preparation, supplies and gear, your winter camping experience will make you anxious to return for a second one. So, why not start planning for your first (or next) winter camping today? While you're at it, why not plan on bringing along some beef jerky? It is especially great for camping as it is compact, provides needed nutrients, tastes great, and stays fresh.
